Meet Jim Norman
Â
Commissioner Norman has ably served as Hillsborough County Commissioner for 17 years, including an unprecedented 5 terms as Commission Chair and 5 terms as the Vice Chair.
Jim Norman was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Early on, Jim knew he was interested in getting involved with the public service sector. After high school Jim studied accounting at the University of North Florida. He decided to move to Tampa to pursue a business career as a legislative analyst with the Salvation Army. Jim has worked for the Salvation Army for the past thirty years in which time he has been involved in programs which assist victims of domestic abuse, provide housing for children, and provide food and housing for the homeless. In November 1992, he was elected to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. Jim was subsequently re-elected in 1994 and 1998. After serving that term he ran county wide in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006.
Jim has lived in the district for over 20 years. Besides having a fulfilling political career, Jim coached youth football. Some of Jim’s proudest moments are seeing how he has impacted some of the young athletes he coached in Hillsborough County.
Jim’s service to the community has empowered him to take what he has learned to Tallahassee and continue to represent the people as State Senator for District 12.
"However, there are very important issues facing us as a region and state community too, and I feel I can make a real impact by taking my efforts and message to the Capitol."
"I've had the opportunity to do so much in Hillsborough County, and I've learned from every moment of it,"
       - Commissioner Jim Norman.
